Media Workshop - Safe reporting for Suicide Prevention


Calling members of the media community! If you are a journalist, editor, sub-editor, news stringer, newscaster, columnist, blogger, video-blogger, media academic and/or a media student – this is your opportunity!

Come and hear first-hand from an international expert in suicide prevention with media industry experience about principles of safe reporting of suicide-related content. The workshop will be delivered in an experiential, hands-on and practical approach.

Facilitator : Assis. Prof Dr. Cheng Qijin (ex-journalist) from the Department of Social Work, Chinese University of Hong Kong

This is an exciting new collaboration between Malaysian and international mental health professionals together with media academics from the public and private sector. Admission is by invitation and free-of-charge. As part of evaluating the effectiveness of this workshop, there will be a research component (anonymized responses) which is currently being reviewed for approval by the research ethics committee.

Counselling Course 2019


Total Credit Hours: 34 hours

Course Work Requirements: 100%
2 tapes & transcript: 50%
Illustrating basic counseling skills in the context of a chosen counseling approach
Journal : 50%
A record of personal awareness and response to each session
Examination : 1 hour 30 mins
Section A: 30% - 30 compulsory questions
Section B: 40 % - Counselling Theories & Counselling Skills
Section C: 30% - Structured/Essay Questions

Final tape & transcript of a complete interview illustrating all skills learnt within the context of a chosen counselling model to be submitted on the day of examination.

Minimum of 50% required for course work & 50% for examination to meet minimum course standards.
Attendance: 90% attendance required to meet certificate of attendance requirements.
